Montana was home to several native tribes whose traditions live on to some extent. The furthest north destination for the River Boats of the 1800's was Fort Benton in the N central of the state.
The sight of Custer's Last Stand at The Battle of the Little Big Horn. The battle is comemerated every year on The Crow Nation's reservation located in the SE corner of the state.
On the western part of the state is the rugged Bitterroot Valey along with Yellowstone Park to the south and Glaicer Park to the north. Just south of Glaicer park is The Bob Marshal Wilderness and the Scape Goat Wilderness creating one of the largest continual protected areas in the United States.
