John Colter was the first white man to discover the area. Due to disbelief of his accounts it was knicknamed "Colter's Hell." Evan when scientists from back east came they were accused of "making up stories" until photographic proof started to surface.
In 1872 the United States Congress created the world's first national park. A place set aside because of its natural beauty and fragility. The area has become a favorite among travelers and vacationing families. The wildlife is plentiful and varied the vistas breath-taking.
